THE BRIDE’S STOLEN FORTUNE: THE MAID OF HONOR’S DEADLY REVENGE

THE BRIDE’S STOLEN FORTUNE: THE MAID OF HONOR’S DEADLY REVENGE

The document on the screen wasn’t a photo of Celine as a toddler. It was a bank statement from four years ago—my father’s trust account. The screen scrolled down, highlighting a series of unauthorized transfers totaling sixty thousand dollars, all flowing directly into an account owned by “Celine Vance.”

The gasps from the guests were like a physical wave. Marcus leaned forward, his face turning a shade of ghostly white. Celine lunged for the microphone, but Sarah stepped back, her voice now cold and steady. “Oh, we’re just getting started, Celine. You told me you deserved that money more than your ‘pathetic’ stepsister because she was too boring to do anything with it. You used it for your European ‘gap year’ and that designer wardrobe you used to bag Marcus.”

Celine screamed, “Turn it off! This is a lie! She’s jealous!”

But Sarah wasn’t finished. She swiped on her tablet, and an audio file began to play over the high-end sound system. It was a recording, clear as day.

“Marcus is a means to an end, Sarah,” Celine’s voice echoed through the ballroom. “His family’s name gets me into the circles I belong in. Once we’re married, I’ll have access to the joint trust. If he finds out about the debt I racked up in Vegas last month, I’ll just tell him it was a charity donation. He’s too stupid to check.”

The silence that followed was deafening. Marcus’s mother stood up, her pearls clacking against her chest. She looked at her son, then at Celine, who was now hyperventilating. The “virtuous woman” image had shattered into a million jagged pieces.

Sarah looked down at me at Table 24 and nodded. “I couldn’t let you keep suffering in silence while she built a life on your father’s legacy,” she said into the mic. Then, she turned back to the bride. “And for the record, Celine? Stay away from my fiancé. I have the receipts for those texts, too.”

Sarah walked off the stage, grabbed a bottle of expensive champagne from a passing waiter, and walked straight out the front doors.

The chaos that ensued was legendary. Marcus stood up, removed his ring, and placed it on the table. He didn’t say a word to Celine. He walked over to his parents, and they left together, followed by most of the groom’s side of the family. My stepmother tried to scream at me, blaming me for “poisoning” Sarah, but I just stood there, feeling a strange sense of calm.

Two days later, I received an anonymous package. Inside was a flash drive containing every single piece of evidence Sarah had gathered—bank records, forged signatures, and the audio files. Armed with this, I went to the police. Because the theft involved trust fund fraud and identity theft, the authorities were more than interested.

Celine’s “dream life” evaporated. The wedding was annulled before the paperwork was even filed. Without Marcus’s family to protect them, Celine and her mother were forced to sell their house to cover the legal fees and the restitution they now owed me.

I didn’t just get my money back with interest; I got my name back. I finished my degree a year later, debt-free and standing tall. Celine now works at a retail outlet in the mall, far away from the designer boutiques she used to frequent. Every time she sees a “Maid of Honor” dress in a window, I hope she remembers the day the truth finally caught up to her.
