PART 2 | The Stranger Showed Me a Photograph of My Mother-in-Law — Then He Whispered a Warning That Made My Heart Stop

My hands trembled as I stared at the faded photograph.

The man in the expensive suit stood silently beside his SUV while my newborn whimpered softly in my arms. For several seconds, I couldn’t breathe.

The woman in the picture was unmistakably my mother-in-law.

Only she looked much younger.

And standing next to her was the man now standing in front of me.

“What is this?” I whispered.

The stranger glanced nervously over his shoulder.

“We don’t have much time.”

A chill ran down my spine.

“What are you talking about?”

He stepped closer and lowered his voice.

“Your husband and his mother never expected you to leave the house alive.”

My stomach dropped.

“What?”

The man swallowed hard.

“I know how insane that sounds. But if you want your baby to be safe, get in the car.”

Every alarm bell in my head screamed at me not to trust him.

I tightened my grip on my child and took a step backward.

“Who are you?”

The man’s jaw clenched.

“My name doesn’t matter right now.”

“Then why should I trust you?”

His face darkened.

“Because ten years ago, I made the biggest mistake of my life.”

His eyes drifted toward the photograph.

“And your mother-in-law was part of it.”

My heart started racing.

The photo slipped from my fingers and fluttered to the pavement.

Before I could respond, his phone suddenly rang.

The color drained from his face.

He answered immediately.

For several seconds, he listened without speaking.

Then panic surged across his features.

“No,” he snapped. “How did they find her already?”

A chill ran straight down my spine.

Find me?

Who was looking for me?

The stranger ended the call and looked directly into my eyes.

“We have to leave. Right now.”

I opened my mouth to ask another question—

But then I heard it.

The low growl of an engine.

Slowly, we both turned toward the end of the street.

A black sedan was creeping around the corner.

The windows were completely tinted.

The stranger’s expression changed instantly.

Fear.

Pure fear.

“Oh no…”

“What?” I asked.

His voice shook.

“They found you.”

My heart pounded so violently I thought I might collapse.

The sedan stopped.

The rear passenger door opened.

A tall man stepped out.

I had never seen him before.

Yet the second he smiled at me, my blood ran cold.

Because hanging around his neck was the exact same silver pendant my husband wore every single day.

The man slowly raised his phone.

On the screen was a photograph.

A photograph of me.

Holding my baby.

Taken only minutes earlier.

My breath caught in my throat.

The stranger grabbed my arm.

“Listen carefully.”

His voice dropped to a whisper.

“If that man reaches you first…”

He hesitated.

Then he revealed a secret so horrifying that my entire world shattered.

“Your husband isn’t your child’s father.”
