PART 3 | My Best Friend Called Me at 2 AM, Begging Me to Come See My Wife in the ER Room. But I Was in Bed with My Mistress. “I’m Stuck in a Storm. Sign the Medical Consent for Me,” I Lied. I Abandoned Her to Die. I Didn’t Know That While I Was Drowning in My Own Filth, My Best Friend Didn’t Just Sign a Medical Form. He Signed Something Else. Something That Would Permanently Destroy the Empire I Stole from My Wife.

The tension in my office was thick enough to choke on. Elena stood there, frail but unbreakable, while Marcus avoided my eyes. My heart pounded wildly as the weight of my betrayal crashed down around me.

“You did this,” I hissed at Marcus. “While I trusted you to sign a simple form, you helped her destroy me.”

Marcus finally looked at me. “You abandoned her, Richard. She almost died while you were with your mistress. I saw the pain in her eyes when she woke up. Signing those additional documents was the least I could do for the woman who actually built this company.”

Elena’s voice was steady despite her weakness. “I knew about Sophia for months, Richard. I stayed quiet because I wanted to protect our legacy. But the night you left me to die… that was the end. The power of attorney Marcus signed has already transferred controlling interest back to me. Your secret accounts are being seized. The board will vote you out by morning.”

Panic surged through me. A chill ran down my spine as I realized how thoroughly I had been outmaneuvered. I had stolen her empire, cheated on her, and left her for dead — and now she was taking everything back with surgical precision.

“Please, Elena,” I begged, my voice cracking. “We can fix this. For the kids. For everything we built.”

She smiled sadly. “The kids already know the truth, Richard. Marcus made sure of that too.”

Before I could respond, my phone rang again. It was one of my shady investors — the kind who didn’t forgive mistakes. “Kane, your wife’s audits are exposing our partnerships. Make this disappear tonight, or we’ll make you disappear. Permanently.”

I stepped closer to Elena, desperation turning to anger. “You think you’ve won? I still have friends. Dangerous friends.”

Marcus moved between us. “Don’t make this worse, Richard. The police are already reviewing the circumstances of Elena’s heart attack. They’re calling it suspicious.”

Just then, security entered my office. Elena had called them. As they escorted me out, Elena’s final words followed me: “You abandoned me to die, Richard. Now watch your empire die instead.”

That night, in a cheap motel after being locked out of my own properties, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing — creditors, board members, reporters. Sophia had vanished, likely paid off or scared away.

But at 3 AM, a new call came. The unknown voice from earlier returned. “Your wife started something she can’t finish. We’re coming for both of you. The empire you stole is the least of your problems now.”

I looked out the dirty window and saw two men standing under the streetlight, watching my room. My blood ran cold.

Elena had begun the destruction of everything I built on her back, but the dangerous men I had entangled myself with over the years were now coming for revenge — and they didn’t care who got caught in the crossfire.

As I sat alone in the darkness, abandoned by the mistress I had chosen over my dying wife, I realized the medical form my best friend signed that fateful night had set in motion a reckoning far bigger and deadlier than I ever imagined. The real endgame was only just beginning.
