PART 2 | MY EX-HUSBAND THOUGHT THE DIVORCE WAS OVER—UNTIL THE MAN IN THE DARK SUIT STEPPED INTO MY HOSPITAL ROOM AND EXPOSED A SECRET THAT MADE HIM GO WHITE AS A GHOST… AND HIS NEXT MOVE MADE MY HEART STOP

The moment the stranger entered my hospital room, the air seemed to vanish from my lungs.

My ex-husband, Daniel, had looked smug only seconds earlier. Now he looked terrified.

His face had turned pale. His hands trembled so badly that the documents nearly slipped from his fingers.

“Mr. Harrison,” the man in the suit repeated calmly, “I believe we need to discuss several financial transfers linked to your accounts.”

My stomach dropped.

Daniel immediately shook his head.

“You’ve got the wrong person.”

The stranger smiled.

“No. We definitely don’t.”

A chill ran down my spine.

For weeks, I had wondered why Daniel had suddenly become so desperate to leave me while I was recovering from the accident. It hadn’t made sense. Eight years of marriage couldn’t disappear overnight.

Or so I thought.

The man opened a leather folder and placed several pages on my bedside table.

Bank statements.

Property records.

Private messages.

Evidence.

Lots of evidence.

Daniel stared at the documents as if they were explosives.

Then he looked directly at me.

“How much do you know?” he asked quietly.

His voice wasn’t angry.

It was scared.

That terrified me even more.

My heart was racing so fast it felt painful.

I slowly folded my arms.

“Enough.”

The silence stretched for several seconds.

Then Daniel laughed.

Not a normal laugh.

A nervous one.

A desperate one.

“You think you’ve won?” he whispered.

The way he said it sent another chill down my spine.

The investigator ignored him and continued speaking.

“Three months before your wife’s accident, large sums of money were transferred from a joint account into several undisclosed accounts.”

I froze.

Joint account?

I knew nothing about that.

Suddenly I realized there was far more to this story than I had imagined.

Daniel’s eyes widened.

He hadn’t expected that detail to come out.

Then the investigator revealed something even worse.

One of the transfers had occurred less than twelve hours before my car crash.

My entire body went numb.

Panic surged through me.

The room seemed to spin.

“What are you saying?” I whispered.

The investigator carefully chose his words.

“I’m saying the timing raises questions.”

Daniel slammed his fist against the table.

“Stop talking!”

The outburst startled everyone.

A nurse passing by stopped outside the room.

For a split second, nobody moved.

Then Daniel looked at me.

Not with guilt.

Not with regret.

With fear.

Pure fear.

And that was when he said something that made my blood run cold.

“You should have signed the papers and walked away.”

The room went silent.

“What did you just say?” I asked.

His jaw tightened.

The investigator slowly stood up.

Daniel immediately realized what he had done.

But it was too late.

Every word had been heard.

Every expression had been seen.

And for the first time, the confident man who had abandoned me in a hospital bed looked trapped.

Then his phone suddenly rang.

The ringtone shattered the silence.

He looked at the screen.

The color instantly drained from his face.

The caller ID displayed a single name.

A woman’s name.

The same woman he had left me for.

Without thinking, he answered.

“Don’t call me right now,” he hissed.

But everyone in the room could still hear the panicked voice screaming through the speaker.

“Daniel, they’re here!”

My stomach dropped.

“What do you mean they’re there?” he whispered.

The woman sounded terrified.

“They found everything.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

For one brief moment, it looked as though his entire world had collapsed.

Then he slowly raised his head and looked directly at me.

And what he said next made my heart stop.

“You still don’t know what really happened the night of your accident.”
