Mark’s words hung heavy in the air of the quiet hospital hallway. I felt my knees weaken. Lily was sleeping peacefully in the private room thanks to the medicine he had paid for, but my mind was spinning in total panic. What condition could he possibly want after abandoning us for years?
He pulled me further down the corridor, away from the nurses. His grip on my arm was firm but not painful — yet the look in his eyes sent ớn lạnh running down my back.
“You have to come back to me completely,” he said, his voice low and intense. “Move into my house. Be my wife in every sense. No more hiding. No more secrets. And you must never speak about what really happened five years ago.”

I stared at him in shock. This wasn’t the desperate, loving man I once knew. This was someone powerful, controlling, and dangerous. My dạ dày quặn thắt as I realized he wasn’t asking — he was demanding.
“But why did you leave us?” I whispered, my voice trembling.
Mark’s eyes darkened. “Because your family threatened to destroy everything I had if I stayed. They wanted you to have the child alone. But now I’m back, and I’m much stronger. I know secrets about your parents that could ruin them forever.”
My heart was pounding so hard I thought it would burst out of my chest. Before I could respond, he continued with a cold smile:
“Agree tonight, Sarah. Or I’ll tell Lily the full truth about her grandparents… and I’ll make sure you never see her again.”

Tears burned in my eyes. I felt trapped. Just then, the elevator door dinged open at the end of the hallway. A elegantly dressed woman in her forties stepped out, her sharp eyes locking onto mine with unmistakable hostility. She walked straight toward us, and Mark’s face tightened.
“That’s my mother,” he said quietly. “She’s the one who forced me to leave you five years ago. And she still doesn’t know Lily exists…”
