Sylvester Stallone has opened up in a deeply emotional interview, revealing his greatest regret ā not paying enough attention to his son Sage’s health. With tears in his eyes, the Hollywood icon admitted that he feels responsible for not urging his son to take better care of himself, something he wishes he had emphasized more in their relationship.

“I feel like I was a terrible father,” Stallone said, his voice cracking with emotion. “I shouldāve paid more attention to his health, to his well-being. I shouldāve made him go for regular check-ups, made sure he was taking care of himself like I should have.ā
Sage, Stalloneās firstborn son, tragically passed away in 2012 at the age of 36 from heart disease, a condition that went undiagnosed. “I never thought it would happen,” Stallone continued, looking back at the time when Sage was growing up. “We were so focused on everything else, on work and the hustle of life. I never stopped to think, āIs he okay?āā

Stallone recalled that Sage had been a healthy, active young man who seemed to have a bright future ahead of him. āHe was strong, independent, full of life,ā the actor said. āHe never seemed sick. But I shouldāve known, I shouldāve made him get checked out more.ā
The regret, Stallone confessed, has haunted him every day since Sageās passing. āI always pushed him to work hard, to focus on his career, but I didnāt take enough time to tell him, āHey, take care of yourself,āā he said, shaking his head. āAs a parent, you think youāre doing enough, but sometimes you miss the most important things.ā
The actor admitted that his own busy career often kept him from being fully present in his son’s life, something he wishes he could change. “I was always on set, always traveling, always trying to make it to the next project. And I wasnāt there when he needed me most,ā he said. āI shouldāve been more involved in his day-to-day, made sure he was eating right, getting his check-ups, doing the things we take for granted.ā

Stallone shared that the loss of Sage has made him reevaluate everything ā his career, his choices, and most of all, his role as a father. “Iāve learned the hard way that no success, no amount of work, is worth losing your child,ā he said. āNothing is more important than being there, checking in, making sure theyāre okay, physically and mentally.ā
Looking back, Stallone wishes he had done more to ensure his son was taking care of himself, urging him to get regular check-ups and not just focus on his artistic pursuits. “I wouldāve made him go to the doctor more. I wouldāve made him understand how vital his health was, just like we focus on other things,ā he admitted. āI shouldāve made him see how important that was.”
He said that the pain of losing Sage is something that will never leave him. āI failed him in the most basic way. I shouldāve been his protector in every sense, and I wasnāt,ā Stallone said. āAnd thatās a burden Iāll carry for the rest of my life.ā

Now, Stallone has become an advocate for health and wellness, using his platform to remind others of the importance of taking care of themselves. āI tell my other kids, āGet checked out, take care of yourselves, make sure youāre okay,āā he said. āI donāt want anyone else to go through the pain I went through, not because of something that couldāve been prevented.ā
In the interview’s final moments, Stallone offered a heartfelt message for other parents, urging them to prioritize their childrenās health. āDonāt wait until itās too late to check in on them, to remind them how important their health is,ā he said softly. āBecause nothing ā absolutely nothing ā matters more than that.ā
