My brother’s wife told everyone I was jealous of her and my entire family turned against me at dinner — so I only pressed play.

My brother's wife told everyone I was jealous of her and my entire family turned against me at dinner — so I only pressed play.

The screen flickered to life. The timestamp was from forty minutes earlier, right before everyone sat down.

There was Sophia in the kitchen, phone pressed to her ear, laughing that sharp little laugh she used when she thought no one was listening.

“I planted the screenshots last week. She’ll look obsessed. Once they cut her out of the will, that beach house is ours. Mark already believes me. His parents are so desperate for grandkids they’ll side with whoever smiles prettier.”

The entire table froze.

Mark’s face drained of color. Mom’s hand flew to her mouth. Dad’s fork clattered onto his plate.

Sophia lunged for the tablet, but I stepped in front of it.

“Keep watching,” I said quietly.

The footage continued. Sophia wiping a tear she didn’t have, practicing the exact speech she had just delivered at the table. Then she muttered, “If Emily tries to defend herself, just cry. They always fall for the tears.”

Mark stood so fast his chair scraped the floor.

“Sophia. What the hell is this?”

She spun toward him, voice cracking on cue.

“Baby, it’s edited. She must have—”

I tapped the screen. The next angle appeared: the hallway camera catching her deleting real messages from her own phone and replacing them with the fakes.

My brother's wife told everyone I was jealous of her and my entire family turned against me at dinner — so I only pressed play.

Silence crashed over the room like a wave.

Mom’s voice came out small and broken.

“You used our grandson as a prop. You used this family.”

Dad finally spoke, low and shaking with rage.

“Get out of my house.”

Sophia tried the tears. Real ones this time. She clutched Mark’s arm, begging him to believe her, promising it was all a misunderstanding.

He pulled away like she burned him.

“Pack your things. Tonight.”

I didn’t smile. I didn’t gloat. I just turned the volume up so every word of her earlier confession filled the dining room again.

By morning the footage had spread through every family group chat, every mutual friend, every relative who had ever believed her polished Instagram life.

Sophia’s carefully built reputation cracked in public. Mark filed for divorce within the week. The will stayed exactly as it was.

And for the first time in years, when I walked into my parents’ house, no one looked at me like I was the problem.

They looked at me like they finally saw who had been sitting at their table all along.
